Trickle Up empowers people living on less than $1 a day to take the first steps out of poverty, providing them with resources to build microenterprises for a better quality of life. PROGRAM INTERN
Trickle Up seeks one Program Intern to support the Director of Programs this fall in New York City. Tasks may include one or more of the following and will be adjusted depending on the intern’s particular skills: assisting with the preparation of a one-week conference in India, including logistical support; drafting close-out reports for our programs in the U.S., Honduras and Bolivia; assisting with management of USAID grant for Mali; assisting with legal reviews of partner contracts in all countries of operation; organizing TU’s library; and other tasks to be determined later.
The candidate must either have a relevant MA or be enrolled in a relevant MA program. In addition, the candidate must have superior writing and analytical skills; be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of poverty reduction work; have prior work experience at an NGO; have a good sense of humor; and be able to work with a minimum of supervision. In return, the Program Intern will gain valuable working experience in monitoring and evaluation and poverty reduction, as well as the chance to work with a committed, highly skilled and fun program team. Tasks may include one or more of the following and will be adjusted depending on the intern’s particular skills: assisting with analysis of poverty assessment data from India, Uganda and Mali; assisting with analysis of outcomes assessment data from Mali and Uganda; preparation for outcomes assessment in India, including research and logistical support; supporting the development of partner assessment tools and business assessment tools; and assistance in development of a new program database; as well as other tasks to be determined later.
The candidate must either have a relevant MA or be enrolled in a relevant MA program. In addition, the candidate must have superior writing and analytical skills; be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of poverty reduction work; have knowledge of monitoring and evaluation tools and systems; have prior work experience at an NGO; have a good sense of humor; and be able to work with a minimum of supervision. Experience with databases and using statistical analysis software is a plus. DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
Trickle Up seeks a current student to fill its 2008 Fall Development and Communications Intern position. You must have a keen interest in the field of international development and be an excellent writer and editor, well-organized, and eager to manage multiple tasks. We are looking for someone who can commit between 20-40 hours per week. This unpaid internship will begin in June and last through August. This is a unique opportunity to work in an innovative and rapidly growing nonprofit environment. The position will provide excellent fundraising and communications experience and exposure to microenterprise development.
BACKGROUND
This internship is a part of Trickle Up’s growing Development and Communications Department, which includes a Development Director, Major Gifts Officer, Institutional Giving Officer, Communications Officer and two Development Associates. Over the next five years, the organization plans to double fundraising from its current level of $4 million to $8 million. To support this aggressive growth strategy, we are expanding our team.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Development and Communications (D&C) team is seeking an intern to help with research, administrative support, and some writing. The intern will work closely with D&C officers and will gain practical learning experience in the field of nonprofit communications and fundraising, as well as overall organizational knowledge of Trickle Up’s international program. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in learning about development, the field of microenterprise development, and the general workings of an international non-profit organization.
INTERNSHIP TASKS MAY INCLUDE
- Perform administrative tasks, including filing and preparing press packets.
- Research major donors, foundation, corporate, and government/multilateral grant-makers, microenterprise programs, and partner agencies.
- Edit grant proposals, reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Write profiles of Trickle Up microentrepreneurs and copy for marketing collateral.
- Review local and national news to seek PR opportunities and draft press pitches.
- Assist with managing Trickle Up’s social media profiles.
- Other special projects as assigned by the D&C team.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in economics, development, business, international relations, or a related field;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Detailed oriented and good organizational skills;
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic about learning about microenterprise and the field of development;
- Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Adaptable to changing program priorities; and
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications as well as email/internet.
