"My customers want the best child care for their little ones, and that is what we provide.” -Kansy Miles, Brooklyn, New York

Kansy Miles was a stellar applicant for a Trickle Up grant. As a former employee at preschools, church camps, and other daycare facilities and a seasoned aunt and godmother, she already had extensive experience caring for children. She used her seed capital to purchase a changing table, bookshelves, and a table and chairs to expand Can-Do Snuggery, the daycare center that she operates from home.
The grant helped her to accommodate more children, Kansy now operates at full capacity and employs an additional full-time employee. She distinguishes her business from others in the area by recognizing the needs of her clients and community.

“My customers are parents of diverse nationalities and income levels,” she explains. “Many are working parents. Some are continuing their education. And some are trying hard to get off public assistance, and yet all they want is the best in childcare for their precious little ones.”

Kansy devotes her business to providing a high level of care. Her center offers educational, special-needs and homework assistance in addition to after-school activities. She has also recognized the childcare needs of the Spanish-speaking population in her neighborhood. To better serve this community, Kansy plans to hire a Spanish-speaking assistant and learn the language herself.
